Cafe: The League of Honest Coffee

This is not a review.

Just when I thought I'd turned tea-guzzler instead of coffee-sipper, a place like The League of Honest Coffee opens its doors (8 April).

I was planning to check it out with my sister later this week, but a mate suggested he and I check it out this arvo. Turns out he works there, the sneaky little bugger.

This cafe is really something else.

It feels like it's bucking the recent trend of minimalistic industrial spaces that seem to be popping up everywhere. It is a warm little space, with unobtrusive artwork - definitely much less intimidating for people (like yours truly) who do not exude the arty-farty coolness required for other boutique cafes.

Of course, what really sets it apart is... the coffee.
I'm really no coffee connoisseur, but I thought my long black was superb and just the way I like it - it was pleasantly bright, not overly bitter at all.
Like its predecessor (Padre Coffee), the menu is fuss-free with a small selection of quality sweet and savoury pastries.

The staff seem to be friendly and ready for an open dialogue about their roasts. Adryll gave me an intriguing lesson when I asked him why on earth people would bother with a fancy syphon coffee maker. Haha, since it's a minute's walk from my new apartment, I might just have to make The League my regular haunt to have him educate me on their different single origin coffees, all of which went straight over my head on my first visit. Cool beans! Literally.                                                                                             .

Check it out --> The League of Honest Coffee: 8 Exploration Lane, cnr Little Lonsdale Street and Exploration Lane.
