Switchfoot @ Billboard The Venue, Melbourne

Hello Hurricane tour 2010, Australian leg
Billboard the venue

Warning: Image-heavy post (30 photographs of a very awesome band)

Ranks as one of the top 3 gigs I've ever attended. HANDS. DOWN. (If proof is needed: Woke up with bruises and an almost-sore throat. That's a good thing in gigging terms in my opinion). The band played their Hello Hurricane album from beginning to end, then graced us with a few Switchfoot classics (like 24, Stars, Awakening etc.). Their energy was suuuuperb and the atmosphere was just electric. Apologies to friends who may have gotten a stray spit droplet because I was frothing at the mouth from excitement after the gig.

... On that note, let's move on to the photos!

Melburnian band Dead Actors Club

Dead Actors Club was pretty alright, despite the fact that they were SO LOUD!

Our ears were positively ringing by the time they were done.

"I CAN'T HEAR A THING NOW."
"WHAT?!"
"I SAID, I'M DEAF!"
"SORRY, I CAN'T HEAR YOU, I'M DEAF!"

After some "woah woah woah" Hello Hurricane-style,

Starting out in the crowd...

... with amazing energy

A quick moment between bandmates

A very lucky fan gets a video from Jon's POV

That's right, Jon Foreman stood inches away from our noses (:
And why yes, his sweat did drop on us and we were glad for it.

Yeah.

You know these guys, right?

[L to R: Chad Butler, Tim Foreman, Drew Shirley, Jon Foreman, Jerome Fontamillas]

More love to the Melbourne crowd...

Ending on a high note!

Photographer's notes: With the exception of a couple of songs with mad blue and red hues, the lighting for this gig was actually quite kind to my limited gear. Definitely didn't struggle as much as during the Newton Faulkner gig. Stuck with the wide-angle lens since Jon was moving to and fro at the front of the stage. I was pretty lucky in getting some catchlight in the crowd shots because flashes from point-and-shoot cameras were going off at a crazy rate every time Jon leapt into the crowd. If only every shoot was this easy.

  2. Unless you're gonna have Jon Foreman rocking out during your engagement shoot... I don't think I'm qualified to do anything like that. hahaha, I have no idea how to direct a shoot!

but thanks for the encouragement nonetheless. It's good to hear I'm doing sthg right

  3. your pictures are soooo good! :)

btw, i didnt know you were such a big switchfoot fan! Jon and Chad attended UC San Diego, so switchfoot comes back to perform on campus or at county fairs here.. and Jon was my pastor's roommate in college so he performed at my pastor's wedding!
